Making a song for awareness week: The importance of being unique by being yourself.

As you may already know, grades 4, 5, and 6 are getting ready to record and make a video clip for the awareness week.

This year, the message we are sending is "Be yourself no matter what they say and feel UNIQUE!"

Recordings will start next week - please study the lyrics so you can be ready!

Grade One - Learning the Treble Clef notes :)

Music is a lot of fun!
Especially when you put color in it!

Revising the treble clef notes with Grade 2

Being able to identify, to "read" notes is very important in the music education of our children.

The first step to introduce the concept of the fact that someone can actually read music with the same way as reading a book comes with the connection to colors.

In grade 1, the little music students learn that each note has their own color.

Today, we started a small revision of the colors and the first position of the notes on the treble stave.

Grade 5 go STOMP! - Team work! Rehearsing for the first round

Grade 5 have a harder work to do. 

They need to come up with a creative idea as a team (which is harder than working solo!) and perform NOT ONLY rhythm but a combination of drama /acting and music.

In other words they need to perform a 90 seconds creative number that will capture their audience.

Their video clip will be uploaded on this blog and you can vote for them.

Grade 4 is getting ready for the STOMP! Competition: Day one.

Jasper used his hands and the final score was 36.5

Michelle had a nice idea with a pencil and a paper. Her final score for was 30.0

Angus kept taking out of his "magic bag" different instruments...

His score for today was 40.5

Mackin performed a nice number with cups; his score was 35.0

Elsa kept it simple and beautiful

Her score was 49.0

Jonah performed a clever number using spoons. His score was 29.5

Emily (aka: Matilda) was very well prepared 

She brought her own drum sticks and...

...she totally captured her audience.
Her score was the highest: 60.0

Grade 3 STOMP! Day One, Trials

As we are discovering different ways to produce rhythm and music we understand how sound changes when using different materials.
Day One with Grade 3 as each one of the students tries to find a nice rhythmic pattern which is easy to follow, easy to remember and...easy to practice!

...and then he performed his number using a bamboo stick and a racket!

Jong Wan brought a lot of different materials; the bowl with the stones won the battle!
