Music Test will be taken on Monday, February 20th during your normal music class.
This means one more week to study and be well prepared!

5th grade: Music Theory Test on Monday, February 20th
Hi 5th graders:
For your test you need to know very well how to make a circle of fifths and :
- Remember the Latin numbers and names for the scale degrees (Tonic I , Supertonic II etc)
- Know how to create a Major scale following the circle of fifths
-Know how to find which scale degree is each note (for example: Sol and Sol flat)
If you have any questions please make sure you find me and ask me on time :-)

We are going to have a test next Monday on Intervals 3rd and 2nd type.
Please check the notes for the 3rd graders and note the following:
If you know how many semitones a 2nd Major Interval has the very easily you can find the other types:
2nd Major: 2 Semitones
2nd minor is Major-1 Semitone = 1 Semitone
2nd Augmented is Major + 1 Semitone = 3 Semitones
The same with 3rd intervals:
3rd Major is 4 Semitones
3rd minor is Major - 1 Semitone = 3 Semitones
3rd Diminished is Major - 2 Semitones = 2 Semitones
3rd Augmented is Major + 1 Semitone = 5 Semitones.

Grade 4: DON'T forget your presentations on baroque architecture, Caravaggio and El Greco.
Grade 6: ON TUESDAY you will take a FULL INTERVAL TEST including identification of intervals as per size and type and inversion too. You have to study both your notes and the inversion list.
For the students that have joined HIS after the Interval Chapter was completed, you will have a simple test on notes identification and music maths.
A brief reminder for Grade 5: Rubens, Rembrandt, Caravaggio and El Greco presentations due date is Friday January 20th.
Versailles Palace and Gardens presentation due date is Friday February 3rd.

I hope you had a very good time during Christmas vacation and that you enjoyed time with your family and friends.
This week, as you already know was the "revision week" and no homework has be given to any grade.
Briefly:
Grade one: Revision on Rhythm and note durations.
Grade two: Revision on Melodic Dictation (level 1 and 2) and Music Math exercises. During Music History lesson we started learning about the Classical and Modern Period of Music.
Grade three: Cello
Grade four: Baroque
Grade five: Presentation on the music and image effect
Grade six: Ear assemble and Revision on the Intervals.

Musical Students of the month
Every month we will have one student from each grade winning the "Musical Student of the month" award.
It's not always about being the best student in music class; it's about how hard you try to get better and better in music. And of course, mistakes don't count; it's a great thing to do mistakes actually, because
in that way we know that you are trying and, especially in Art, mistakes help you develop your abilities.

Music Theory
On Monday we will practise again with the intervals focusing this time on the ear training and learning how to identify them by just listening to them.
Music History
During our Music History lesson we will start presenting your homework on the music motives.
As you already know, the best and funniest presentation on this very important element of music composition will be awarded with a Slurpee :)
We will also be discussing our Christmas Celebration Performance, please come with suggestions on songs you like to perform.
