Grade 4: Learning about Intervals is SO MUCH FUN!!

Jonah is jumping to a 6th interval

Angus thinks it's easy to jump on a 5th interval...

"I'm almost there!'

"Big step. This is all I need for a 3rd interval!"

Hm... a 2nd interval is so easy!

Sunny day - a great chance to play the intervals game outside!

"Prince, oh prince, what is the time?"

" A 5th interval!"

Big step - a Major interval

A big jump is an Augmented interval!

or a split...

Come, I'll help you!

Got you prince!

Grade 3_ Presenting Cello and other strings.

In music History we learn to identify different types of symphonic (and non-symphonic) strings.

It is much more fun, though when we have the chance to meet them ... in person!

Thank you all for sharing your instruments with us:)

Rachel and her Cello

Grade 6 - Brief reminder for your homework in minors

Remember, Majors are always written in CAPITALS and +, while minors always in small letters and -

In order for us to find the relative minor of each Major we go DOWN 3 SEMITONES

for example:  C+  = a -

HOW DO WE CREATE THE MINOR?

We use the circle of 5ths to see the sharps or flats from the mother Major.

For example. For e- ( relative harmonic minor of G Major) we only need to put a sharp on the F note)

When we have placed ALL the accidentals of the Major scale to the Harmonic minor, we give her an extra characteristic.

We find the VII (Leading Note) and we raise it one semitone up.

If the note does not have any accidentals, we just put a sharp
If it has already a sharp, then we put a double sharp
If it has a flat, we remove the flat with a natural.

Minors are the only state of scales that we can have together flats and sharps.

Grade 5 - Intervals and Inversions

Brief reminder how to invert an interval:

A 7th interval becomes 2nd (and vice versa)
A 6th interval becomes 3rd (and vice versa)
A 5th interval becomes 4th (and vice versa)

A minor becomes Major (and vice versa)
A diminished becomes Augmented (and vice versa)
A Perfect REMAINS Perfect.

Diminished - minor - Major - Augmented

A 2nd Major is 2 Semitones

A 3rd Major is 4 Semitones

A 4th Perfect is 5 Semitones

A 5th Perfect is 7 Semitones

Grade 3 - Brief Update

This week we focused on finding semitones and tones on our keyboard :

and learning about simple dynamics markings in music:

p - piano
f - forte
pp - pianissimo
ff- fortissimo

crescendo - going from piano to forte
diminuendo - going from forte to piano

Grade 2 - Brief update

Still working on the instrument families.

This week we will re take the small quiz on the winds, brass, strings and percussion and we will attempt to play simple rhythmic patterns with our Orf instruments.

Grade 1 - A brief update.

Hello 1st graders and parents :)

As you know we've been practicing for the past month on our music history skills by listening to wonderful classical pieces composed by famous composers through animation.
There is a small exhibition with G1 artworks on the "Firebird" by Igor Stravinsky on the bulletin board right at the music class room.

This week we will focus strictly on theory. We will revise the notes we have learnt and perform them on the xylophone.

It is very essential for the very young students to combine shapes with color - it is always easier for them to use a visual help for everything new in music.

Please, take a look at the PDF with the notes and their colors.
